Four Tamil movies have confirmed their release for Pongal 2024. Vikram's 'Thangalaan', Sivakarthikeyan's 'Ayalaan', Aishwarya Rajinikanth-directed 'Laal Salaam', and 'Aranmanai 4' are the ones. Barring the last one, the rest three are expected to have a simultaneous release in Telugu and Tamil.
With the exception of 'Ayalaan' (which is a sci-fi movie with an alien at the centre of the plot), the other movies don't seem to be exciting. 'Thangalaan', directed by Pa.Ranjith, might work critically but its commercial success in Telugu is highly doubtful. So is the case with 'Laal Salaam', starring Vishnu Vishal in the lead and Rajinikanth in a cameo.
The Telugu-dubbed Tamil movies are in for humiliation in the face of competition from straight Telugu releases such as Mahesh Babu's 'Guntur Kaaram', Vijay Deverakonda's movie with Parasuram Petla and Ravi Teja's 'Eagle'. Venkatesh's 'Saindhav' and 'Hanu-Man' pose a threat to the aforementioned Kollywood movies.
The Tamil film producers are gambling a great deal by announcing the release of their movies in Telugu for Sankranthi.
