Renowned singer S Janaki, who crooned more than 20,000 songs in various Indian languages in her career spanning more than five decades, has finally fell into the eyes of jury of Padma awards. Yes, the legendary playback singer is to receive the Padma Bhushan award, the third highest civilian award announced on the eve of 64th Republic Day. However, the singer refuses to accept the award. The reason for her refusal is her being unhappy over the number of persons selected from South India for the Padma awards and for giving more prominence to the North Indian celebrities by the jury of Padma awards.
Janaki won four National awards and 31 State awards in different languages.
